| Sokcho city with the splendid Mt. Seorak in between is a coastal city located northeastern part of Gangwon province. The city borders with the East Sea to the east, Yangyang, Goseong to the south and Inje to the west. With the famous Mt. Seorak in the center, Sokcho is 248§° away from the capital of Korea, Seoul; 174.6§° away from Chuncheon, the seat of the province office; and 62§° away from the DMZ. The total area of the city is 105.26§´, which is 0.6% of the entire Gangwon province. Mt. Seorak National Park takes 55.80§´. |

Sokcho is one of the Korea's most popular tourist destinations. The city attracts approximately 10.2 million visitors annually (2006 year) to the variety of tourism spots such as the Mt. Seorak National Park, the coastal beaches, lakes, and hot springs. Especially, autumnal tinted leaves blanketing Mt. Seorak attracts a myriad of visitors in the fall. The beaches along the East Sea are popular in the summer.
With this success, Sokcho is not tempted to become complacent. To realize the continued development, Sokcho is conducting a citywide projects; ¡®Seorak Theme Tourist City Development Project¡¯ and "Mt. Seorak-Mt. Geumgang (in North Korea) Zone Tourism Development Project".
